Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival The
Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is a celebration that embraces the town's western heritage while highlighting a tradition of winter sports. Kids being pulled on skis behind horses. Relay races down a snow-covered main street. A high school marching band on skis. It's all part of a 100+ year tradition in Steamboat.
I photographed the event every year during my time living in Steamboat. After capturing the traditional perspectives, I focused on a more "behind the scenes" look at the kids, coaches, parents, and the entire community that is needed to put on this event. I also got a chance to cover the 100th anniversary of the event.
It was a pleasure to provide the local child athletes and their families with a free image of their participation. Many of my images have also been used by
national news organizations to highlight this unique event.
