Steamboat Springs is much more than just a "ski town." It's a unique community with an amazing public school system (K through college), friends that are never more than a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride away, and a beautiful surrounding landscape with abundant recreational opportunities. I try to capture the charm and uniqueness of our small town in a photojournalistic manor through the lens of our everyday activities. Many of these images are available for licensing in the Steamboat Stock gallery.
Ski all day with an Olympian while raising money to "Kick Cancer's Ass." That's the premise of Ski 4 Yellow, an annual fundraiser in Steamboat Springs which directed half of the proceeds to LIVESTRONG and the other half to local cancer treatment and prevention services. I served as the photography director for this and the Ride 4 Yellow event until the 4 Yellow Foundation was discontinued in 2014 after raising over $1 million.
I founded the Steamboat Springs chapter of Help Portrait in 2013. Each year we provide more than 100 people in need with a free portrait and framed print, funded through my charitable giving program. Many of our guests never had their picture taken previously. It's an amazing experience to watch our small community of photographers, hair and makeup stylists, and other volunteers give back in such an impactful and lasting way.
