Biography

Focused. Committed. Passionate. This is how people describe Scott Bideau, a photographer who creates images from the mountains, valleys, and rivers of the beautiful American landscape while also capturing the unique lifestyle and adventure sports found in his residence of Steamboat Springs, Colorado (“Ski Town USA”). Scott’s images have been used in magazines, brochures, and calendars, as well as featured in private, corporate and public collections.

Artist’s Statement

My mountain obsession started at the early age of 13 after a five night backpacking trip through the San Juan Mountains. Shortly thereafter I earned my Eagle Scout badge, which exemplified a love of nature going back to my early childhood (my father took me and our Scout troop camping once per month: rain, snow or shine). This passion for the mountainous landscape took a temporary backseat while I completed an engineering degree and an MBA at the University of Kansas. During that time however, my powder cravings were fulfilled through bi-weekly visits to Colorado during the winter ski season.

I have two young kids and a wife. I have a “day job” in enterprise software sales. I volunteer for several community organizations.  This doesn’t leave as much time for photography as a full-time professional, but I continue to grow my passion for photography as an avocation. I create images both at home in beautiful Steamboat Springs, CO and across the globe in my personal and business travels. My blog serves as a journal for these adventures. It’s been said that any activity becomes an art when the doer cares about doing it right or doing it better, and this is my philosophy with photography.

I enjoy a diverse interest in portrait photography, landscape photography, adventure sports and action photography, real estate photography, and photography instruction. Borrowing the words of Imogen Cunningham, my favorite photograph is the one I’m going to take tomorrow.
